Gillian Lawler ha conseguito una laurea in Belle Arti presso il National College of Art and Design di Dublino nel 2000. Ha esposto in tutta l'Irlanda e ha partecipato a mostre internazionali in America, Inghilterra, Galles, Croazia, Polonia, Spagna, Olanda e Italia. Ha vinto numerosi premi tra cui il Graphic Studio Dublin Print Award Residency 2019, vincitore assoluto dell'Open Selection Exhibition Award all'Eigse Arts Festival nel 2009, il prestigioso Hennessy Craig Award, la RHA Gallery Dublin Mostra annuale nel 2007, il Whytes Award, RHA Gallagher GalleryDublin nel 2007. Altri premi includono un Kildare Arts Bursary Award 2018/2015/2013/2011/2009, un Arts Council of Ireland Bursary Award 2009 e Culture Ireland Awards 2011/2017/2018. È stata selezionata per la pubblicazione Beers Lambert Contemporary, Thames e Hudson, 100 Painters of Tomorrow nel 2013, il Celeste International Art Prize nel 2012 e un premio al merito dal Golden Fleece Award nel 2013.
